The river is called ‘ the treasure of Europe’, long 140km, located in the national park Durmitor.
The rafting trip will make you able to enjoy a part of the long 82km canyon, which is stated to be the second deepest canyon after Grand Canyon with Colorado River. In some places the canyon reaches a depth of 1300m. In one part of the canyon, it is so narrow, that the locals have jumped from one side to the other, when they needed to.
Day one: we leave Sofia early in the morning, and on the way we stop in the village ‘Mokra gora’, which is popular after the reconstruction of the narrow railway in the area. From birth sight the railway can be seen as the digit eight. The popularity of Mokra gora is gained by the ethno Wooden village, created by the world known movie director Emir Kosturica. All the houses and the small church are wooden, and all the streets are named after popular celebrities – Nikita Mihalkov, Ernesto Che Gevara, etc. We reach the campground and get accommodated in bungalows.
Day two: after breakfast, we equip and transfer to the starting point of the trip. The starting point is reached via jeeps, good for off road. During our trip we enjoy beautiful scenery and extreme rapids. We pass by a beautiful waterfall, and can pass under it. The river color is sky blue, and due to its purity we can see the bottom of the river even in the deepest sections. Lunch. We have free time to relax. We have dinner and the accommodation is in bungalows.
Day three: after breakfast we have one more rafting trip on the extreme part of Tara River, in order to get our maximum amount of adrenaline and action. Lunch and relax on the river bank. We have dinner and night in bungalows.
Day four: After breakfast we pack our luggage and head to Sofia. We arrive in Sofia in the evening.
Recommended period: June-September.
Level of difficulty: we recommend you to have tried rafting on other rivers, before coming to the rafting on Tara River.
Needed things for the rafting trip: swimming suit, t-shirt and a towel, thicker clothes for the evenings, food during the trip.
Meeting point: parking lot of Vasil Levski Stadium.
